To survive this--even just survive the depression and anxiety over what's happening--it's important to realize that so much is already being done in the shadows, deliberately ignored by the mainstream. I'm linking to a book I wrote. Could folks link to other articles, documentaries, books, and websites for struggles, movements, and projects that actually constitute realistic responses to this crisis?

While I abandoned XR pretty disillusioned after the first two years, the common accusation (which you don't quite make) that we were/are all professional activists and on a payroll is untrue. I've had this from my secondary school students (some of whom say they would have run me over/ I should have been run over and say the same of Greta Thunberg, who I know is seen in some quarters as a sinister agent) and frankly being arrested and the court process etc. (not to mention all the travel and interminable Zoom calls) did not financially benefit me in the slightest and wasn't great on my mental health.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I definitely could have put much more on the line and also agree with you that XR is premised on very dubious sociology research, upholding essentially liberal values. But the group I was in was neither exclusively white nor exclusively middle-class and I dont think most of the members benefitted much from the experience save the (admittedly delusional) belief they were doing something important and useful.

Thank you for pushing back and sharing this. I know I often generalize in a way that erases a lot of the details or specific experiences. And when writing about XR I tend to characterize them on the basis of their leadership, as well as the strategies the overall organization follows, though I know this can erase the experiences of a huge part of the group.

Could you share more: how much power and autonomy to choose your own directions, to shape communications, actions, and strategies did people on the bottom have, the rank and file, people in local groups?

I'm also sorry you have to deal with kids advocating running you over, that's atrocious. I would probably tell them something like, "well, you're the idiots who are going to have your children starve to death in your arms in about 30 years if we don't start making much bigger changes than blocking traffic." But... that would probably not accomplish anything other than getting fired.

No. They won’t have children as SARS2 repeat infections cause brain damage, infertility, heart attacks, POTS, dementia, etc… SARS2 spike protein binds fibrin. If you don’t wear a respirator in Viral Laden Air (everywhere in 2025), you breathe in and out Airborne Blood Clotting Virus SARS2. Fibrin is a component of blood clotting. Every Asymptomatic SARS2 infection causes blood clots. Every Symptomatic SARS2 infection causes blood clots. The extreme danger of SARS2 is its 60% Asymptomatic transmission. This is ONE result of SARS2 infection. It’s a MONSTER. The teens of today won’t live much past 50 or 60 years old. SARS2 AGES the BrainBody. I am 51 and disabled by two symptomatic SARS2 infections. I wear a respirator when I am in Viral Laden Air. My granddaughter cannot as she is a year old. She needed ER care. She visited us afterwards. We were infected again with SARS2. 😭🤬 Science did not change in 2019. Donald the Nazi LIED. SARS2 is a society ending pandemic. We see the results of FAFO already. We are entering our 6th year of SARS2 unmitigated spread. Are you willing to wait 15 more years for revelation of harm? CDC dragged its feet on HIVAIDS for 20 years. HIVAIDS utilizes ORF8. A mechanism for reproduction inside a BrainBody and immune system evasion. Only one other virus utilizes ORF8. SARS. 1 & 2.

You always give me a little glimpse of hope in this dark and horrifying world. Thank you Peter🖤

That's really good to know! I'm glad I can do that, coming out of a week of having a lot more horror than hope myself.

Thank you! We need to return to our roots and embrace the people who care for us and protect us as we do the same for them. Move away from those who are only interested in us to profit from us.

So XR are bad (I guess) but what about Just Stop Oil?

Expand full comment

I think all those groups exist on a spectrum. Showing we can shut down oil and gas infrastructure with mass blockades is helpful, not giving equal legitimacy to acts of sabotage that could potentially shut it down for longer is a huge problem, focusing just on fossil fuels and using a strategy of pressuring governments to improve regulations is naïve, a waste of time at the very best: it ensures the climate movement will never support reality-based solutions or even understand what the problem is.

Well said. Thank you for writing it.

This would make a striking slideshow or simple video presentation as well if you were looking for another medium to share it in. <3

Do you have any in depth writing on trust?

That's a hard one. Maybe tangentially? Trust is also something really hard to write about, though I know eventually I want to try.

Glad you’re here on this otherwise rather lousy platform. Big fan of your work offline, and looking forward to hearing your perspective. 💗

All of this! @graceblakeley recently put the call out for organising and cooperative movement wins — got any to share from your network? We’re also working on a marketing campaign to highlight these stories and strategies that are paying off
